Texas Attorney for Victims of Sex Abuse in Scout Organizations

Scout Settings and Sex Abuse - Lori Watson can help a sex abuse victim in a Scout setting
The Boy Scouts of America, based in Irving, Texas, is one of the nation's largest youth organizations.

According to recent media reports, there have been thousands of sexual abuse cases involving Scout leaders and adult volunteers which have been exposed through litigation. In May 1991, the Washington Times published a major five-part investigation entitled “Scouts Honor” on sex abuse in the BSA. Based on tens of thousands of pages of court records from more than 20 states; more than 1,000 newspaper articles about abused Scouts; and than 200 interviews with predators, Scout leaders, families of victims, sex abuse experts and lawyers. It concluded : “The Boy Scouts are a magnet for men who want to have sexual relations with children...Pedophiles join the Scouts for a simple reason: it’s where the boys are.”

Unfortunately, sexual abuse by Boy Scout Leaders and volunteers does occur in scouting activities.
All too often adult sexual predators, appearing as mentors, have exploited positions within the structure of the scouts in order to gain access to boys. Abuse has also occurred in other scouting organizations such as the Royal Rangers. Your scout may have been abused during camping trips, sleepovers, visits to scout leaders’ homes, and other scouting events.

If you or your child was abused as a scout, please call to discuss your options.
